ABOUT mE

Julia M Leeming, AIA LEED AP

Raised in the US Foreign Service, I grew up traveling and learned to adapt to and appreciate unfamiliar surroundings. Urban contexts, building types and materials, and ambient sounds and smells were always shifting around me, and I developed a flexibility in how I think about space and design problems.

After receiving a Masters Degree in Architecture from Yale University in 2006, I worked for six years at Sage and Coombe Architects in New York City. I had the privilege of outstanding mentors and was exposed to a wide range of projects, from conceptual design to construction completion. In 2013, I began my own Architectural practice in Stonington, Connecticut.

In my work, I aim for simple, elegant design solutions that combine function and beauty. I gravitate toward natural materials and their inherent tones and textures. I am drawn to daylight and how it can enhance a space and interact with pattern and color. I strive to foster meaningful connections to the exterior landscape.

I am a LEED Accredited Professional and hold licenses to practice Architecture in Connecticut and Rhode Island.

Lauren Sexton, Designer

Lauren received her BA in Architecture from the University of Kentucky ('21) and recently graduated with her MArch from the Yale School of Architecture ('25). At Kentucky, she was closely involved in several design-build projects that deepened her appreciation for materiality, craft, and thoughtful detail. At Yale, Lauren was awarded the James Gamble Rogers Fellowship, co-founded the Yale Women in Architecture Student Group, and served as a Graduate Teaching Fellow for both undergraduate and graduate design studios. Her academic work was published in Yale’s Retrospecta 46-48, including her independent research where she explored the intersection of design, education, and neuroscience to imagine better classroom environments for the development and well-being of young children. Lauren's professional experience includes work at the Yale Urban Design Workshop and summer internships at Newman Architects in New Haven, Conn., and Architectural Artisans in Louisville, Ky., where she worked on local commercial and residential projects.
